Sometimes mineral oil can be taken under a doctor's guidance. When a medical professional recommends mineral oil, follow the exact dosage instructions. Dosage will depend on age, condition and response to treatment. Consult your doctor about whether it will interfere with existing medication, especially things like oral contraceptives. Overdose can occur, but the effects are usually nontoxic, and recovery is likely.
Take it at the same time daily and drink six to eight glasses of water throughout the day, unless your healthcare provider specifies otherwise. Mineral oil affects the absorption of other vitamins and minerals. Hence, it should be taken on an empty stomach.
If you experience abdominal pain, dehydration, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting after ingesting mineral oil, get medical help immediately.
Although mineral oil has some health benefits, overdose is likely. Do not take mineral oil for more than a week at a time.
